We arrived in Zanzibar after 4 months after our last visit and we found that a few weeks before they complete and open the new area designated for the brand-new market, in the historical area of Darajani, already famous and visited for the presence of the historical market.

The area is completely new and overall a key asset in the tourism promotional project of the nation, so the government asked for the possibility of completely renewing it in Google Maps.

How to face the challenge?

The request was clear, but also a bit challenging as nothing present on Maps actually reflects the reality anymore, from the roads to the footprint of the building, up to the satellite view of the area.

The only possible solution was to start with the aerial capture and the GPS measurements on the field, and then the complete rebuild of the roads (including road names) and the footprints of the new buildings removing the old ones first.
